Don't Hex With Texas by Shanna Swendson

Here's the back blurb-Katie Chandler has fled fast-paced Manhattan and returned home to a simpler life, working at her family’s feed-and-seed store in Cobb, Texas. Leaving the sexy wizard Owen Palmer to battle his demons in the magical realm may have been a selfless gesture—after all, Katie seemed to attract evil, which only made Owen's job a lot harder—but now it seems like trouble has followed her home. And despite the fact that Merlin, Katie’s old boss at Magic, Spells, and Illusions, Inc., has assured her that Cobb is free of enchantment, magically speaking, Katie begins to notice curious phenomena.

Soon Cobb is being plagued by a series of unexplainable petty crimes and other devilish mischief, and after her experiences in Manhattan, Katie knows "unauthorized magic" when she sees it. As this new dark magic strikes deep in the heart of Texas, Owen appears (literally) to investigate. Now Katie’s friends and family must show the bad guys why it’s bad luck to hex with Texas, while Katie and Owen combine their strengths like never before to uncover a sinister plot before evil takes root in the lone star state.

Where to start? At the end of book 3, Katie left New York to go back home. Actually, the end of that book almost totally ruined the whole series for me. She left for a stupid reason & it made me mad.

Anywho, in book 4, she's back home in Texas working in her parents' store. She seems to be the only sane one of the bunch. She's got 3 brothers & all of them are what I think of when I think redneck. One of her brothers is married to a sexpot & his marriage is very messed up.

Katie thinks life will go back to normal now that she's in a magical dead spot, but unfortunately that wish is not to be true. She starts witnessing weird things and she realizes magic has followed her home to Texas.

What did I like about the book?

Katie-The story is always told from her POV and she's pretty cool. She's funny, selfdepricating and very dedicated to her family & her friends.

Owen-*sigh* What a hottie. I wish we knew more about why he is the way he is. It's hinted out throughtout the entire series, but you don't really get a clear picture of why. I hope as time progresses that we do.

Katie's Granny-What a funny lil' old lady! Her whole family thinks she's nuts, but she's not. Well, mostly not.

What I Didn't Like-

Philan Idras. Why this guy is considered such a bad guy I'll never know. A more bumbling idiotic villain I don't think I've ever seen. How he gets away with 99% of what he does get away with I'll never know. He's a moron of epic proportions.

Katie-She keeps making really stupid decisions about her relationship with Owen. If I were Owen I'd have moved on a long time ago. *sigh*

The magic-I know Katie can't see it, but it's so boring to read about magic you can't see. All she can do is feel it. Whoooooo...scary! *eye roll*

So, the story was entertaining as usual. The story is always fast-paced and the comic timing is quite nice. However, Ms. Swendson needs to make a full decision in regards to Katie & Owen. Are they or aren't they?

My Rating: C+

Hi! I found you linked over at Alpha Males.

I'm definitely with you on the end of the third book. I have the fourth one on my TBR pile, but I haven't been excited about picking it up. I've actually been putting it off (despite my love for Owen) because I thought the ending of the last book was completely horrible.

You (and this post) may have convinced me to go ahead and give it a try... Thanks!
