Everything to Lose by Katie Reus

Back Blurb-Sean Sullivan refuses to let his wife go without a fight. He made a mistake a year ago by suggesting they get a divorce. He only wanted to scare her into staying in town, so he gave her an ultimatum. No one was more surprised than him when she walked out the door and never looked back. Now that she's on the same continent, he plans to convince her they're meant to be together, and he's not above using sex to get what he wants. When killers target them to die, he'll use any means necessary to keep her safe. Even if he has to kidnap her and tie her to his bed to do it.

I was lucky enough to win a copy of this book over on the DIK blog. I was looking forward to reading it, since Katie is a fellow DIK-Chick.

I enjoyed it. I have to admit I'm not a big fan of kidnapping for love stories, but this one wasn't too shabby. This is an Ellora's Cave quickie, equaling out to 75 pages on the pdf file. In a lot of ways I feel this might have been a detriment to the story. Ms. Reus hints at things that happened in the past, but there is not a whole lot of room to go into any detail. There were also some odd editing issues, but this is something that I find happens a lot with books coming from EC. I'm not dissing Katie by any means and I hope she realizes that. :)

The Good: The sex. Not very many of them since the book was so short, but the sex that does show up is quite spicy and VERY sexy. Mrowr.

The obvious connection between the two main characters. You can tell that Sean does love his wife very much and you can see that she loves him too. There's a lot of unresolved issues between them.

The fact that the kidnapping makes sense. It's not technically kidnapping, but it is. Kind of hard to explain, but there you go. :)

The two protaganists. They aren't perfect, but they're willing to work things out (once she gets over her anger at the kidnapping, that is).

The Bad: The fact that the heroine tends to be wishy-washy. She wants a divorce. She's mad. She allows him to have sex with her...a lot. But she doesn't want to get back with him. etc. etc. That would've been easier to take if the book had been longer. As I said at the beginning, I think the shorter length didn't allow for as much character development.

The resolution. It seemed just a bit too easy. However, it is the catalyst for getting them back together, so it can't be ALL bad. :)

All in all, I did like the story. I'll be looking for more of her books. Yay!

My Rating: C+

This actually sounds like something I would read, lol. Great list of pros and cons!

I always have a horrible time reviewing friends books. I don't want to come across as too critical, but I also don't want to lie.

Here's hoping she won't hate me. :)
