Dark of Night by Suzanne Brockmann

Badly shaken after the loss of one of their own, the men and women of Troubleshooters Inc. go up against their most deadly opponents yet —- the clandestine organization called The Agency. Blackmail, extortion, murder: The Agency's black-ops sector will apparently stop at nothing to achieve their objective. But this time they've gone too far and hit too close to home.Led by former Navy SEAL Lawrence Decker, a team of investigators —- from FBI agent Jules Cassidy and former CIA operative Dave Malkoff, to Troubleshooters Sophia Ghaffari, Tess Bailey, and even receptionist Tracy Shapiro —- band together to uncover the truth, and bring the killers to justice. But the stakes are raised even higher when Decker barely escapes an attempt on his life. It soon becomes clear that the hunters have become the hunted —- and the Troubleshooters are no longer just solving a crime -— they're fighting for survival.

Dark of Night basically takes up where Into the Fire ends, which is good. I have to admit that I didn't really care for ItF as much as I'd hoped. When I found out that DoN was going to be Decker's story, I was excited.

And yeah, how on earth am I going to review this book without giving away some major spoilers? Hmmm...well, I could do one of two things. 1. I could do spoilers with white letters so you can only read it if you highlight it or 2. I can just stop here. Your choice! LOL!

Okay, so I'm going to sum up this story super quickly and then I'm going to go spoilerific, but will WARN YOU AHEAD OF TIME!!! That's for LB who had this book ruined due to no spoiler notice. Shame on reviewers who do that. For shame!

Anyhoodles, this book is basically non-stop action. It starts at the beginning and doesn't end until literally the last page.

And a major bone of contention on my part. What is up with the bad binding? Page 120-164 is all backwards. I had to go take my book back. So, a word of warning. If you get this book, check page 119 and flip it to where page 120 should be. That way you don't have to go back to your local book store to trade it in.

SPOILERS!!!! SPOILERS!!!! SPOILERS!!!! SPOILERS!!!!! SPOILERS!!!!!!!

Oh, boy, where do I start? Ever since Tess and Nash's book, things have been hinted back and forth about Sophia & Decker. And why not, especially with how they met? It was a pretty big deal and it created a lot of tension between them. So, when I found out that this would be Decker's book...and Sophia's, I wasn't too sure how I felt about it. I never thought of the two of them as a good couple. Too much baggage and a lot of ridiculousness on both their parts.

Dave Malkoff declaring his love to her and having her decide to go with him? I gotta admit, I was actually REALLY happy about that. It meant she was ready to move on and it also meant that Dave would finally get his woman. Yay!

And so this story is about how Dave & Sophia actually fall in love. And it's about how Decker falls in love with someone completely unexpected, but who is actually perfect for him. I was sooooo happy when I saw where this book was going. *happy dance* Some people might be annoyed by this, because I know there are a lot of Sophia/Decker fans out there, but I think Ms. Brockmann did what should have been done.

Everyone is happy. Joy! Whoot! Etc. And she focuses on the romance. I think that's why I had such a hard time with ItF. I didn't get behind the romance of the main characters.

And can I say how happy I was to have Alyssa & Sam and Jules and Robin there? They play such a big part, especially in getting certain characters heads out of their butts. Whoo-hoo!

So, I was very happy with this book. LOVED IT! I'm going to go let Ms. Brockmann know.

My Rating: A- for some pretty craptastic editing. Someone should be fired. Just saying.

Ok - I looked at your rating but wanted to read no more since I'm reading this right now! Great rating though. :)
