The Highlander Series by Karen Marie Moning

This is not going to be a review so much as a discussion/thoughts on these books. I actually started reading KMM last month (I think it was) when I read the first two books in her Fever series. I wasn't a huge fan of the first one, but was intrigued enough to read book 2. Book 3 (Faefever) is one of the biggest trips I've ever read.

I was on Twitter one night and asked about the Highlander series. Back in the day I was a BIG Highland romance fan and have always had a thing for a guy in a kilt. But, I wasn't sure if I wanted to read this series. One of my buddies convinced me and when I was down at the coast, I picked up a couple. Unfortunately, I didn't have the first one and my OCD tendencies wouldn't let me start until I got the first.

Here are my thoughts on the series so far...

KMM has a thing for the Fae. Obviously. I've always been fascinated by them too, but she's got an obsession going on here. Not that I'm complaining. :)

The Men: She likes to write about hard-core Alpha males. These are men who are big, brutal, deadly men. Until the heroine comes along. And then they are mush. Only with the heroine, of course.

The Women: Oy, virgins all. I could understand it if one...maybe even two were virgins. But I kid you not. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. All. *shakes head* Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against virginity (obviously *snort*), but I do have issues with it when these are all supposed to be modern women who've dated and all that other good stuff. It's just...weird.

The basic overall storyline: I admit, I didn't care for the first two books all that much. I thought the heroine from book 1 was an idiot and that the hero from book 2 was a moron. However, the writing was tight and the books were decent. It wasn't until book 3 that things started to really kick in. I haven't read Kiss of the Highlander yet, but I've read Books 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, & 7. Adam's is my favorite, which shocks me to pieces. I so wasn't expecting that, esp. after what he did in book 1, but...he redeemed himself. :)

And that's about it. I'm sure I'll think of more, but I've been battling a sinus migraine since Friday and my brain isn't functioning like it should. Have any of you read this series? What are your thoughts?

I hear ya on the virginity thing - that definitely bothered me. I think the series would be better without that bit of silliness.

I liked book 1 but didn't love it by any means. Book 2 was my least fav of the whole series. I really liked 3, 4 & 5. And of course Adam' book. How can you not love him?

I love KMM's Highlander series!! I laughed out loud so many times during book 1 with Drustan and Gwen!! I kind of thought that Beyond the Highland Mist seemed out of place with the other books in the series though but I still liked it! I think my favorite was Spell of the Highlander, I loved Cian!! I really really hope she continues the series, I think I read that she doesn't plan to though! :(

I really like her Fever series. As far as the Highlander series, your review is spot-on. I like the ones that feature the MacKeltars...mmmmm...

I also like how she's sorta merged the two series together.

I've read her Fever series but not the Highlander one. I'm thinking it's because they aren't all available on the Kindle. But I haven't checked in a while so who knows!

She's one of my favorite authors. LOVE the Fever series. I wish she would write more, faster!
