Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh

I'm a Nalini Singh fan-girl. There, I've said it. :) I've been anticipating this book since Nalini hinted about it eons ago. I bought it on Tuesday, but it wasn't until today that I read it. I know, my willpower astounds me as well. :) And I can't believe I waited so long, especially now that I've finished it.
There's no way for me to go into a ton of detail on this story without spoilers, so I'm going to Good and Bad it. Here goes.
The Good-
Elena: Wow, talk about an amazing, kick-butt heroine. Someone else mentioned this in their review (I think it was on Dear Author, but can't remember) that the big thing that bugs them about Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance (but UF esp.) is that the heroine is always so kick-butt and is almost inhuman. Thankfully, Elena isn't like that. Yes, she kicks butt. Yes, she has a lack of fear when it comes to death. However, the thing that sets her apart, at least for me, is that she does have vulnerabilities that make her more human. Whoo-hoo!
Raphael: Um, whoa. I think that about sums it up. Raphael is not human. It is obvious in his thoughts, his actions, everything. He has no compunctions about killing Elena if it means getting a means to an end. And I think that's why I like him so much. He's inhuman and ACTS LIKE IT! There's nothing I hate more than a character who is written as some tough, hard-core Alpha who ends up acting like a woman once a woman is involved. Raphael can be a jerk, but he's true to his character.
The world-building: As always, tight, descriptive without being over-descriptive.
The Writing: As I was reading this I realized something about Nalini's writing that I've noticed in her Psy/Changeling series, but never vocalized. The one thing that she truly specializes in is an ability to paint pictures with words. Location, people, everything. It's like being able to "see" what she's talking about even though nothing is a visual.
The Twist: Whoo-boy and what a twist it is. :) I know, I'm evil.
The Secondary Characters-Esp. the Seven and the Archangels. I mean, whoa.
The Action: As always tight and crisp. I felt the final showdown was a smidge anti-climatic, but not. Hard to explain w/o spoilers, so I'll just leave it at that. :D
The Bad-
For once, I don't really have anything to add to the bad list. I do have some frustration issues, but that's due to the fact that I know she's planning on bringing Elena & Raphael back for Angel's Kiss. I hope she answers the questions she brings up, especially in regards to Elena's past.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book. I'm always afraid when an author that I really and truly enjoy starts something new. I'm worried that the new stuff won't be as good as the old. I think the thing I can really commend her on is that Angels' Blood doesn't read anything like the Psy/Changeling books. It's truly a different book. The only similarities are the super-tough heroine and the hard-core Alpha. :)
I cannot WAIT for Angel's Blood.

Angel's Pawn by Nalini Singh (E-Book)
Boy, oh boy, oh boy! Okay, so for any of you out there who DON'T know, I'm a HUGE Nalini Singh fan. I first came across her via e-harlequin (I think) and she was such a sweet lady I snapped up Slave To Sensation and have never looked back.
She has a new series coming out. The print book is called Angel's Blood and it comes out next Tuesday. I've been waiting with bated breath for this book to come out and when I heard that she had an e-book that was connected to this new series coming out...well, of course I had to snap it up! And hello, so cheap. he-he
I haven't read Angel's Blood yet (no ARC for me *sniffle*), but I've heard wonderful things about it. The thing I love about Angel's Pawn is that it gives me an idea of what I might be getting into with AB. In Angel's Pawn, we're introduced to Ashwini, a guild-hunter who has an...interesting relationship with Janvier, a vampire. In this world, vampires were created by angels who hold this over the vampires for a term of service (usually 100 years).
Ashwini has been contacted by Nazarach, an angel, who wants her to stop a feud between two rival vampires. I gotta admit, it's hard to describe this book. The names keep tripping me up. Suffice it to say, this story has a LOT of sexual tension. Mmmm...my favorite. No sex, but sexual tension up the wazoo.
And the way it's ended...PLEASE TELL ME WE GET MORE!!!!!! I'm demanding here! LOL! If you love Nalini Singh, I can't recommend that you get this e-book enough. Yes, it's an e-book which is kind of annoying, but trust me...it's worth it.

Hostage to Pleasure
I'm not going to bother with a back blurb. For one thing, it is WAY too early in the morning and for another, I'm just not! :~P
Hostage to Pleasure is one of the most anticipated books of 2008 (for me anyway). I first fell in love with Nalini's writing when Slave to Sensation first came out. I fell in love with the Changeling/Psy world. I fell in love with the tough Alpha males and the strong heroines. I'm happy to say that HtP was not a disappointment! Yay!
Dorian was introduced all the way back in StS right after his little sister was killed by a psychotic Psy. Full of rage and frustration, he turned to his duties as a Sentinel to help keep him human. And though he was born fully a panther, he's latent. He is not able to switch to his animal self and has trained himself to be super strong, fast, and lethal.
As Darkriver's sniper, he was sent to watch over Ashaya in Mine to Possess. She was trying to save a few children who'd been taken by the Psy. This is totally outside of what the Psy are supposed to do and he's intrigued by her.
In HtP, Ashaya knows her time is limited. She fakes her death and is able to escape. She finds herself in Darkriver territory and is saved by Dorian. See, Ashaya has a problem...a big one and it turns out that Dorian is the only one who can help save her.
HtP is a book full of twists and turns. Every time I thought I had something figured out, something new would pop up. I was going to go to bed at 11 (due to the horrific hour I was supposed to get up), but found myself going to bed at 12:45 because I could NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN! Nalini is evil! Her books are so good, you can't stop reading them! Argh!
This book seemed more action-packed than others. The two of them were in constant (or almost constant) peril throughout the entire book. And when they finally make love? One of the most sensual, sexy love scenes I've ever read. Nalini seriously needs to write a book on how to write the ulitmate love scene.
HtP is a phenomenal story. Caressed by Ice is still my favorite of the Changeling/Psy series, but HtP is a very close second. Excellent story and Nalini just keeps adding more to the world she's created. How cool is that?!?
