Into The Fire by Suzanne Brockmann

Hoo-boy...this book was intense. Yeah, that's the word I'm looking for. Way back in Hot Target, Vinh Murphy's beloved wife Angelina was killed by a deranged lunatic.

There's been no mention of that since, but now we've got ITF which is Vinh's story. Turns out that as soon as his wife was put in her grave, he went on a drunken bender that lasted a ridiculous amount of time.

Cue Hannah Whitfield, Vinh and his deceased wife's best friend. They have a drunken night of sex and then the book jumps forward to present day.

Let me just say this...this book was really, really confusing. Usually I'm able to follow the multiple POV's of Ms. Brockmann's stories with no problem. I think the issue is that it's been five book since Vinh's wife died and other things have happened since then. I'm sure if' I'd reread Hot Target, I wouldn't have been so lost.

The same characters that are in all her books are in this one too. It's just so confusing. Honestly, I think there were at least six POV's, if not more.

And the whole Izzy/Eden thing? That just hit me really, really wrong. You'll know what I mean when you read the book, but it made me really uncomfortable. He definitely should've know better.

Was the story good? Yes. Could it have been better? Yes. If there'd been less time between books and less POV's, it would've been much better.

As per usual, I greatly enjoy Ms. Brockmann's writing. Was it as good as All Through The Night? Definitely not. I don't think she can top ATTN. Cuz that was Jules' book & I love him so.

I know this isn't the longest review or anything, but it's really hard for me to put it into words. I could give too much away with the simplest of storyline plots. There was just so much going on and so many interlocking stories. I can definitely say that this book could not be read as a standalone. And I would definitely recommend reading (or rereading) Hot Target first. Too many references to things that happened in that book. Confusion overwhelming.

I'd love to hear your opinion of "Outcasts Of Skagaray" by Andrew Clarke. There are sample chapters on www.threeswans.com.au if you want to preview it. Your opinion would be viewed with interest.

Hey you!

I was surprised that I didn't have a hard time following along with the many jumps in character POV's and while I could follow along easily, I was still rather intrigued more by the secondary storylines than the main one. It's always been like that for me though with SB, it's like Sam and Alyssa all over again, only this time around it's Izzy Zanella.

Did you want to smack Danny Gillman at all throughout this book? I did. =P
